Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a condition of the brain that results in excessive activity (hyperactivity), impulsivity, and difficulties with focusing attention.  Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is the condition without the hyperactivity element.  They are both classed as developmental disorders, i.e. are evident from birth.

The hyperactive element of the disorder can result in fidgeting, talking incessantly, and generally wanting to be 'on the go'.

Although this condition is typically associated with children, research in the field continues to demonstrate that some individuals do not simply 'grow out of' AD(H)D.  It can affect an individual's ability to function adequately in a range of everyday settings, such as home and work, and can impair academic performance.
